Star Vacuum

From: Brother, Sister (A book of poems)
by P. R, Lowe copyright 1979
(poem written November 1969)

The evening is covered
softly in fog
quieting the leaves
and dotting the horizon
with vagrant blackbirds
The darkness steals the light away
and I am alone
The shadows drag along
the cobwebs of ancient memories
depositing dreams
in the footfalls of my passing
The stars wink
and vacuum up what’s left
