Mason Jar

by P. R Lowe, copyright© July 4, 2016 (written July 21, 1969)

Oh to be a mason jar

and if you ask me why-

to hold the lovely things that are

and never let them die

catching rainbows near and far

and faeries when they sigh

mellow chords from his guitar

and blue dust from the sky

a rusty swing hinge squeaking

in a fading summer breeze

lovers when they’re speaking

and laughter from the trees

Oh to be a mason jar

and if you ask me why-

preserving beauty near and far

just to keep it nigh
